Virginia Governor Appoints STL’s CEO to NSU Board of Visitors
Northern Virginia – Governor Bob McDonnell announced recent additions to various Virginia State Boards this past week and Succeed to Lead’s own Dr. Byron Cherry has been appointed to serve on Norfolk State University’s Board of Visitors.
According to the school’s website, “The Board of Visitors is an executive branch supervisory board responsible for University operations including requests for appropriations. As a public institution, Norfolk State University is accountable to Virginia’s taxpayers through institutional direction from its active, informed, and engaged Board of Visitors.”
“I am excited and honored to be appointed by Governor McDonnell to this position and believe it to be one way I can give back to an institution that has given me so much,” advised Cherry upon receiving notification of his appointment. Dr. Cherry is a graduate of Norfolk State University where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting before entering the Army and serving in the Infantry and Finance Corps for 26 years. Over the years he has maintained a connection with the school and was named a Distinguished Alumni of the Year in 2007, and inducted into the Norfolk State University’s Military Alumni Hall of Fame in 2008.
Cherry said, “NSU set the foundation for the success I have achieved and I am sincerely grateful for the opportunities afforded to me through the education and lifelong relationships I established there. I am looking forward to serving the school in this capacity and want to thank Governor McDonnell for this opportunity.”
